The P-40 Tomahawk was used in many theaters on the 2nd world war. The P-40 traced its roots to the earlier P-36 Hawk. A sleek monoplane, the Hawk entered service in 1938 after three years of test flights. Powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1830 radial engine, the Hawk was known for its turning and climbing performance.
